We took a several-day trip back to the city we previously lived in just before Christmas. Unfortunately, seeing friends took priority over taking pictures, but here are a few shots I did take.
First is Matthew eating a doner when we stopped for lunch on the road. Doner is meat (in this case, chicken) roasted in front of a flame on a vertical skewer. The edges are shaved off with a long knife as they are cooked. It's served on a platter with salads or on a roll with fixings--anything from plain ketchup to the works (including hot peppers and french fries).
Before our trip we made salt-dough Christmas ornaments for our friends. Can you tell which ones Mommy "helped" with?
Friends we visited from our first home here. This is a very patient family who tolerated our earliest days in language and culture learning! My kids remembered them and were glad to visit and eat traditional meatballs and salad.
